Undefeated Carver Downs Apopka 21-0, November 10, 1961

The Leesburg Undefeated Carver Heights High Trojans of the Central Florida Athletic Conference won their 1961 Homecoming game here last night in the Venetian Gardens ball park over the previously undefeated Phyllis Wheatley High Panthers of Apopka 21-0.

Willie Hannah, a fast speedy back for the Trojans, chalked up two touchdowns; while Captain Eddie Joe Sneed, threw a touchdown pass to End Ronnie Roundtree, and Robert Brown, a lineman for the Trojans scored a safety for the Trojans.

All the Trojans scores came in first and second quarters of the game. Next Friday night, the Carver Heights Trojans will close out their season in Melbourne and Coach Dabney said this morning that they haven't been held under 40 points a game this season.

'Trojans Day' At Carver Today, November 8, 1961

Wednesday is known as Trojans Day at Carver Heights High.

Assembly program, to which the public is invited, will be in charge of the Trojans.

Coach H. O. Dabney and his staff will present the team to the a Carver Heights High Family and Visitors.

Wednesday night a street parade will be conducted through the main part of the city.

The mamoth parade, Thursday at 4 p.m. will be one of the most colorul ones in the history of the school.

Thursday night, in the beautiful Venetian Gardens Park, the Homecoming game will be played between the Trojans and the Panthers of Phyllis Wheatley High, Apopka, Fla.

Carver Heights Homecoming Queen Selected, November 7, 1961

Tonight at 8 in the Carver Heights High School cafetorium Ruth Dunbar, a junior, will be crowned "Miss Homecoming Queen."

Mrs. Mary B. Davis, sponsor of class 11-2, with the help of her students, was successful in raising the largest amount of money in the senior high department.

Members of the royal court will include Miss Junior High Trojan's Sweetheart and Miss New Homemakers of America.

Homecoming festivities are scheduled throughout the week. Homecoming Day is Thursday.

Thursday night the Carver Trojans meet the Apopka High eleven at Venetian Gardens in the Homecoming game.

Game time is 8 p.m.

Carver High Trojans Win By Big 19-0, October 13, 1961

The Leesburg Carver High Trojans of the Central Florida Athletic Conference chalked up their second conference win last night as they defeated the DeLand Euclid High Tigers here in the Venetian Gardens ball park 19-0 in a conference contest.

The Trojans kicked off to the Tigers, and lost the ball on a fumble. The Trojans recovered and after a series of play, right halfback Arnett Hawkins, led the Trojans to a touchdown from the 25-yard marker and made the extra point, to lead the Trojans 7-0 through the second and third quarter.

The Trojans managed to get the ball late in the fourth quarter and Arnett Hawkins carried the pigskin over from the 25-yard line for the second tally for the Trojans. The try for extra point failed. Fullback Frank Gibbs of Trojans put the game on ice when he scored from the 5-yard line.

The Trojans tried a number of passes, but just couldn't get them to click at the right time. After the game, Head Coach H. O. Dabney said that Ronnie Roundtree, end, and tackle Richard Davis were big standouts for the Trojans, and that Mack Sapp, center on the Trojans, did very good job at the center post and linebacker on defense. Both high school bands were on hand to entertain the fans at halftime. The Trojans Marching Band is led by Bernard Walker as head Drum Major.

Hard Hitting Trojans To Meet Euclid High Tigers, October 8, 1961

The hard hitting Trojans of Carver Heights High school will see action for the second time on the home field Thursday night, Oct. 12 when the Tigers of DeLand will meet the same thing that the Tigers of Eustis Vocational School met Sept. 28. This game promises to be exciting as well as entertaining to the anticipated large crowd. It's a must that you be there and help cheer our team on to victory.

Carver Trojans Tie Ocala 6-6, October 8, 1961

The Leesburg Carver High Trojans of the Central Florida Athletic conference stepped out of their conference last night to play the Ocala Wildbulls of the Big Nine North Conference to a 6-6 tie before a large crowd in Ocala.

The Trojans played the Wildbulls off their feet and kept a scoreless game going until later in the third quarter, when Captain Eddie Jo Sneed of the Trojans set up a touchdown by moving the ball down to the 10-yard ten-yard line and Willie Hannah took the pigskin over for the first score of the game. Try for extra point failed.

In two minutes of playing time in the fourth quarter, the Wildbulls came back with a tally, to even the game up at 6-6.

Joe Smiley, halfback for the Wildbulls, took a 50-yard pass from quarterback Jack Rennier. Try for the extra point failed.

Next Thursday night at 2 p.m., Leesburg Carver High Trojans will be back home in the Venetian Gardens ball park to meet the DeLand Tigers in a Central Florida Athletic Conference battle.

Tonight at 8 p.m. in the Venetian Gardens ball park the Leesburg Carver High 1961 Trojans will open their gridiron season, as they take the field against strong Eustis Tigers of the Central Florida Athletic Conference.

Head Coach H. O. Dabney of the Leesburg Carver Trojans who has been on the go since August 30 having hard practices every day had this to say about his Trojans as they closed out their practices last night. "This is a young team and is not the powerhouse everyone has built them up to be".

The Trojans 1961 schedule calls for action like this: September 28, Eustis at Leesburg; October 6, Leesburg at Ocala; October 12, DeLand at Leeburg: October 19, Leesburg at Haines City; October 26, Gainesville at Leesburg; November 2, Sanford at Leesburg; November 9, Apopka at Leesburg (Homecoming); November 17, Melbourne. Helping Coach H. O. Dabney, who is in the 13th season at Carver High School, are assistant coaches L. J. Berry and J. W. Sweetwine, who are in their eight season with the Trojans. The Trojans marching band will be on hand for big half time show.
