In what will probably go down in the records as one of the most spine thrilling and hard fought games seen in these areas in many a moon. Coach Hubert Dabney's Carver Heights Trojans defeated the Euclid Tigers from DeLand last night by the tune of 13-7.

The game was so tense and close that not a fan breathed freely in the waning moments of the game as DeLand was knocking at the Trojans goal throughout the last 12 minutes of play. In the end, it was a stalwart ground and pass defense that closed out all hopes for the previously undefeated Tigers. Up until last night, only one team had crossed the Tigers goal for six points, who came into town boasting a perfect record of 4-0, all in conference play. From the very outset, the Trojans scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. One being a 50 yard off tackle run by sophomore Willie "Pop" Hannah. Once in the clear, Hannah outsped all would be tacklers and crossed into the promised land with not a hand being laid on him.

The other score came as a result of a blocked punt and covered in the endzone by James Gavin, an eight grade student. Outstanding in pass interceptions for the Trojans was Arthur Gardner, another Sophomore who broke the Tigers back when everything looked rosy. Next week the Trojans travel to Haines City and will not be at home again until Homecoming November 5.

Trojans drop first of season to Ocala, October 11, 1957

The Carver Heights Trojans lost 6-0 to the powerful Ocala Wild Bulls at the bulls field last night. The non-conference tilt was the first defeat of the season for the locals. Outstanding for the Trojans were linemen Steve Patterson and Donald Bisbee.

The Trojans meet Melbourne away, next Thursday.

Powerful ground gains in  the first, second and third periods paid off last night for the Carver Heights Trojans as they downed the Eustis Tigers, 29-0 in a lopsided tilt.

The victory gave the Trojans their second win in as many starts this season.

Backs Donald Bisbee, Sherman McKinney and Tim Lowery starred for the Trojans, The next home game for the Trojans, at Venetian Gardens, will be November 14, when they face Fessenden.

Trojans Declared Conference Champ, December 12, 1956

Coach Hubert Dabney's Carver Heights High School Trojans were officially declared Central Florida Athletic Conference Football Champions for 1956 at a recent meeting of member schools held at Hungerford High School Gymnasium, Winter Park.

The Trojans of Leesburg marched through an undefeated season in conference play and showed their greatness by finishing with an overall record of 8 wins and 1 loss. Two teams were tied with identical records for the runnersup spot; Eustis with 2-1-1 and Hungerford finished in a deadlock for second place honors.

Both of these teams met during the season and the game ended in a 13-13 tie. An All-Conference team of twenty-two players was also selected at this meeting with each player receiving a gold football. The Champion Trojans dominated the team by placing 10 boys on the team.

Players from the Trojan squad making the team were; Edward Haynes, end; Steve Patterson, tackle; Emory Hamilton, guard; Lewis Moat, center; George Stephens, end; Cornell Lowery, quarterback; Donald Bisbee, halfback; Melvin Hawkins, fullback; Walter Wiggens, linebacker; and James Johnson, middle guard, of the ten boys making the team, seven are seniors.

Dabney states in order to hold his own in the conference next year, a lot of work must be done, schools comprising the C.F.A.C. and their standings are as follows:

Fessenden Tigers of Ocala Trounced By Trojans, 62-0, 11-18-1956

The Fessenden High Tigers of Ocala felt the devastating power, combined with a brilliant display of running and blocking, of the Carver Heights Trojans as the Trojans won 62-0.

The Trojans were playing the Tigers at their Homecoming and from the very outset took command of the contest and rolled to their eight win.

The Trojans blocking was near perfect which facilitated the lighting like thrusts of every back that touched the ball. Melvin Hawkins, big Trojan fullback, playing his last game for Carver Heights, along with eight other seniors, was the scoring star of the game. Hawkins took a beautiful executed hand off from senior quarterback Merritt and while Fessenden linesman were tackling Merritt Hawkins was off on the longest run of the night an 87 yard run. He also scored from 73, 48 and 13 yard thrusts.

Aiding Hawkins in the touchdown parade was Robert Ward, another senior, who scored on 51, 33, and 13 yard runs. Big Steve Patterson, tackle got into the scoring act when he blocked a Fessenden punt and picked it up and scooted over.

The Tigers gamely but were completely outplayed. This game ended the season for the Trojans unless Coach Dabney is successful in securing a postseason game. At present all efforts for such have not materialized.

S.T.E. Pickney, principal of Carver Heights High School, greeted approximately 450 students in assembly recently. The student body is composed of students in the Leesburg area and many from other states.

The assembly program was in charge of Coach H.O. Dabney, his staff and the Trojans. Professor Pickney was selected as principal speaker for the occasion. The 40 players that were presented were more determined to play a good game of ball after hearing the head of learning urge them in a very dynamic way to have in God and themselves and to play a clean game, win, lose or draw. Eddie Joe Sneed, co-captain and Richard Davis co-captain, were presented along with 38 other Trojans.

Mrs Brenda Haygood, talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Haygood, senior and popular among the teenagers, has been chosen the Trojan's Sweetheart for the second consecutive year and was presented.

The Trojans of Carver Heights High School, will see action for the first time Thursday night when they face the Tigers of Eustis Vocational High School in Eustis at 8 p.m.

Even though the loss of Hannah, Hawkins and several others by graduation has had its effect, the Trojans' performance promises to be no less exciting due to the strenuous work by Head Coach H.O. Dabney and his staff, a school spokesman said.

On October 4, 1962 at 8 p.m. in Venetian Gardens, the Trojans will play their initial home game with the Bobcats of Hungerford.
